When you hear Minnesotans say they’re going “up north to the lake” they’re often referring to our region. With nearly 20% of the state’s 10,000 lakes, many of them prime fishing and swimming lakes, there is no shortage of cabins, campgrounds, and resorts to retreat to. The influx of summer visitors creates an instant market for shops and restaurants, with some communities swelling by 30% in the summer. But there is plenty to do in the winter, as well, from skiing to ice fishing to snowmobiling. For those of us lucky enough to live here, we have a giant playground year round. For our visitors, we strive to fill every possible need they may have. The quiet, peaceful Minnesota lakes, recreation and natural beauty of the Park Rapids Lakes Area along with dining, shopping, attractions and quality Lodging at Resorts, Motels, B&Bs and Campgrounds make a week, weekend get-away or day trip to Minnesota memorable.

Thumper Pond Resort, Ottertail Lake in Ottertail, Minnesota is a prime vacationer’s destination, with over 21 square miles of premier water for fishing, boating, sailing, and swimming. There are several small resorts nestled along its shores as well as those of many other nearby lakes; however, many resorts are not open year-round, even though vacationers come to play in the winter as well as summer.
In addition, until 200x there was not a facility large enough to host conferences and other large events. Therefore, the community worked hard to support the opening of Thumper Pond Resort. Situated on 250 acres and carved out of 90,000 red pines, Thumper Pond is Minnesota's premier resort in Ottertail. It features a spacious all-suite hotel, championship 18-hole golf course, full meeting, banquet and conference center, Willy T's Tavern & Grill, on-site Serene Woods Spa, & 12,000 sq. ft. of splashing fun at the Northern Hideaway Indoor Waterpark.
In the spring of 2010, Thumper Pond Resort was purchased by Madison Hospitality Group of Brainerd. A resurgence at Thumper Pond was pledged by the new owners and the 150 other employees who work at the complex in Ottertail.
